We would like to welcome you to our Excalibur Matrix 380 Crossbow Package Review; this review will tell you everything you need to know about this recurve crossbow. The Matrix 380 started a recurve crossbow revolution and will be the standard by which all recurves will be judged for years to come. It’s compact, fast, and powerful. It’s accurate, quiet, and better balanced. In addition, the Matrix 380 is easier to cock, can’t be dry-fired, and offers longer limb life than ever before. This Excalibur recurve crossbow changes everything you thought you knew about recurves. This is the next evolution of crossbow performance.
The Excalibur Matrix 380 is far more compact than previous models, making it easier to take on the hunt and maneuver in smaller spaces. This durable, quality-built recurve bow is made for hunting big game, but you can use it on smaller game or shooting targets. In addition, it’s well-balanced and lightweight, making it comfortable to handle.
The Matrix 380 launches arrows at a smoking velocity of 380 FPS, well over the industry average for fast compound crossbows, but this is a recurve. The power stroke is 13.1” and it boasts 112.3 foot pounds of kinetic energy.
This crossbow only weighs a slight 5.9 lbs, making it easy to carry and maneuver. Unfortunately, since it is a recurve, the draw weight is a mighty 260 lbs. If you’re interested in purchasing this bow, make sure to check regulations in your state; some require bows to be under 200 lbs draw weight. The Matrix 380 does come with a rope cocking mechanism, which is virtually silent, and is ready for integrating a crank cock.
This compact bow has a stock length of 35.6” and an uncocked width of 25.5”, making it small enough to use in tight spaces.
DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
This recurve crossbow from Excalibur boasts a 60% longer limb life and is lighter, quieter, and better balanced. It’s the first of it’s kind with a compact design, making it more convenient for carrying into the field.
It’s accurate and reliable due to having less moving parts than a compound bow. Additionally, it has a tried and true design and perfect scope alignment.
With it’s self-contained Guardian Anti-Dry-Fire system, which is housed in the scope mount, it catches the string should you accidentally pull the trigger without an arrow in place. The built-in release allows you to easily decock even with an arrow loaded instead of having to shoot it into the ground or use a crank lever for decocking.
R.E.D.S. string suppressors keep your shot nice and quiet, helping to prevent the string from vibrating.
The Matrix 380 has an ergo-grip stock, making it easier and more comfortable to hold.
This recurve bow comes with a rope cock to make it easier to cock and allows integration of a crank cock, both making the 260 lbs draw weight more manageable.
The Realtree camo design will make it easier to blend into your surroundings, while helping to keep you invisible from prey.
The Matrix 380 has outstanding performance, blasting arrows at a blistering 380 FPS. The 112.3 FPKE that’s generated means you have the power to penetrate both targets and prey with ease. This high-performance bow just might be the only one you’ll need for your next hunting trip.
Even at a range of 30 yards, you’ll still get almost 100 FPKE, which is more than enough to take down the biggest game, such as cape buffalo or a grizzly bear.
This bow comes with the Tact-Zone Scope which features multiple reticles with red or green rheostat illumination, a multi-coated lens for exceptional clarity, and is adjustable for speeds from 275 FPS up to 410 FPS. The scope is high-quality and sights in quickly and easily, making the Matrix an accurate killing machine.
While the Matrix 380 recurve crossbow does come with a rope cock, you still have to be pretty strong to dead lift 130 lbs of weight. The integration of a crank cock will make it even easier, allowing those who normally wouldn’t be able to cock the ability to do so.
This bow is fast and powerful enough to mince targets, so make sure you use a compressed foam target. In addition, there isn’t any game, big or small, that can withstand the power of this recurve. Whether you are an avid hunter or target shooter, this bow has enough power and accuracy for long distance shots. This bow makes accurate shots out to 70 yards.
In addition, the lightweight, compact design means you can shoot from inside a blind, tree stand, or take the hunt into the field, all with comfort and maneuverability.
This recurve bow is in the moderate to high pricing range, but it also may be the only bow you need for a variety of hunting and target shooting.
Everything you need to hunt or shoot targets is in the box. The Matrix 380 comes with the following: Guardian Anti-Dry Fire scope mount, Tact-Zone illuminated scope, Cheekpiece, R.E.D.S. suppressors, 4 arrow detachable quiver and bracket, 4 Diablo arrows with field points, and a rope cocking device.
This recurve crossbow is easier to take into the field, narrower than previous recurves, to allow for limbs and branches, making the idea of carrying it in the bush more convenient. This means you don’t have to buy a separate compact compound bow for that type of hunting.
In addition, this recurve is easier to get back into the heat of things by being able to replace the string in the field in a matter of minutes. Compound bows generally require taking them to a professional for restringing, taking more time away from the hunt.
What do we like?
What we like about the Excalibur Matrix 380 is that it’s a compact, lightweight recurve crossbow. Most recurve crossbows are bulkier and are better for use inside the blind. This is a game changer.
We love how fast this bow is, 380 FPS, and how powerful it is; you can literally take down anything you’re allowed to hunt with no problem. We also like that the speed and power equate to further distance shots accurately.
We like the high-quality scope on this bow; it’s accurate and true.
We really like the Guardian Anti-Dry Fire Scope Mount. Not only does it keep your from damaging dry fires/misfires, it allows for safely decocking, instead of having to shoot an arrow into the ground or using a crank device for decocking, which not many bows have this feature.
What don’t we like?
We really don’t like the 260 lb draw weight; some states have a law preventing draw weights of more than 200 lb, meaning you can’t even own this bow in those states. In addition, it’s a lot harder to cock, even with a rope cock for some. Using a crank cock would most definitely relieve this problem, but would be quite a bit louder, too.
The scope, although high quality, tends to be a little darker than we like; it’s harder to see at dawn/dusk or when it’s foggy.
We would prefer if this recurve were a bit cheaper, but on the flip-side, it could definitely replace all your compound bows, so it’s really just a personal preference.
The bottom line is that the Excalibur Matrix 380 Recurve Crossbow is deadly accurate out to 70 yards. With it’s compact and lightweight design, this is not your dad’s recurve.
This recurve is so fast and powerful, you can expect to take down any large game with ease and shred targets like never before.
The Guardian Anti-Dry Fire works exactly as it should, potentially saving you from devastating dry-fires, and preventing the bow from being fired when not loaded.
If you want a sturdy, powerful bow that is designed for hunting with a well-balanced and lightweight construction that is comfortable to handle and with camo that will help prevent giving away your position, this recurve crossbow is the one for you.
