We appreciate your joining us in our Barnett BCX Buck Commander Extreme CRT Crossbow Package review. Say that ten times fast! HaHa! I’m just joking, but this Barnett crossbow isn’t! The Buck Commander Extreme Crossbow comes from top-rated, high-performance crossbow manufacturer Barnett, which is a name many have grown to trust. This crossbow is yet another in a long line of powerful, accurate, and durable crossbows made by this outfit. The Buck Commander is fast, efficient, lightweight, and easy to maneuver. It’s all the crossbow you’ll ever need for both target shooting and hunting.

Barnett has been making bows for over half a century and their name is proudly worn by this Buck Commander Extreme as well. If you are looking for an affordable, quality-efficient, well-built compound crossbow for either target shooting or small to big game hunting, this may just be the bow for you.

This Barnett crossbow has a smoldering arrow firing velocity of 365 FPS; with this speed, long distance won’t be a problem considering the accuracy of this bow. This bow has devastating impact, delivering 118 foot pounds of kinetic energy (FPKE) with a 13.375” power stroke. There isn’t any game or target that will be able to withstand the Buck Commander’s strength.

With a draw weight of 185 lbs, using the included cock rope just makes sense. Using the cock rope will relieve about 50% of the draw weight, leaving you to dead lift about 92.5 lbs instead. Additionally, this crossbow allows for the integration of a crank cock, if you prefer that instead. Crank cocks are excellent for beginners, young archers, and women, making it possible to cock independently.

This ”lightweight, compact speed demon”, as it is often referred as, weighs just a little over 7 lbs, making it easy to carry whether you have to walk to your tree stand or are taking the hunt to the woods. The Buck Commander is 35.25” in length and is 19.875″ axle to axle.

The lightweight construction of the Buck Commander crossbow is not only exceptionally durable, but it’s also easy to use and comfortable to handle. Using their patented Carbon Riser Technology, the balance point is brought back towards the shooter’s shoulder for superior balance and stability, also allowing for quicker target acquisition. The patented shoot-through foot stirrup completes the compact fit while adding even more power.

This bow boasts CNC machined aluminum flight track and 7/8” Pic rail, custom composite laminated limbs, and Crosswire string and cable system, which blends Barnett’s fibers with the industry’s leading materials for stability and reliability.

As with most all Barnetts, the Buck Extreme has an Anti-Dry Fire trigger system. The metal injected molded trigger has a 3.5 lb smooth pull as well as the added security of auto-safety. You can’t shoot the bow until you’ve manually taken the safety off after cocking.

In addition, this crossbow comes with a rope cock, but it is also ready for the installation of a crank cock. This device is highly recommended for beginners, young archers, and women who want to use their crossbow independently. While both the rope cock and crank cock make it easier to cock, the crank is the easier of the two.

The performance of the Buck Commander Extreme crossbow is in it’s name, extreme. It blasts out arrows at speed of 365 FPS. With 118 FPKE, nothing can stand in it’s way, whether big game or big targets. TIP: this crossbow is too powerful for homemade targets; it will generally blast them apart in one shot.

In addition, with lighter construction due to Barnett’s Carbon Riser Technology, this bow is lightweight, well-balanced, and allows for stable shooting. It’s not only easier to acquire your target, but it’s also easier to hold aim until a you’re sure a shot can be made. It’s also compact, making it easier to maneuver inside the blind and other confined spaces.

This bow comes with a 3x illuminated mutli-reticle scope, which is actually a nice scope that’s easily adjusted for accurate shots. Don’t be surprised if it’s practically sighted in right out of the box. The optics are bright, the scope has eye relief, and the illumination is just enough for foggy mornings. Reticles are set at ten yard intervals, so starting at 20 yards, you’ll be good to go at 30, 40, and 50 yards, which is actually beyond what the average hunter will need under normal hunting conditions.

This crossbow from Barnett is versatile and easy to use. It’s lightweight and compact, so you can easily hunt from the blind or walk around looking for your prey. It’s powerful and fast enough for any size game you want to hunt or any type of targets, although, we suggest you buy some that are well-made. Some targets won’t be able to withstand it’s powerful punch.

While it comes with a rope cock to ease the 185 lb draw weight, it also allows the integration of a crank cock. This addition will make the bow ideal for anyone, such as younger archers and women. With the Buck Commander’s moderate price point, it’s perfect for even the most casual shooter.

With a blistering speed of 365 FPS and 118 FPKE, this bow can bring down even the biggest prey. Additionally, with this speed, you’ll have no problem with those longer distant shots, whether aiming at game or targets. This bow is versatile enough to use for both hunting and target shooting and by anyone who wants to use it.

The Buck Commander not only has a moderate price point, but it also comes fully loaded, is well-made, powerful, and FAST! You can practically shoot this one right out of the box.

The Barnett Buck Commander Extreme comes with the following: illuminated Cross 3×32 four-reticle scope, rope cocker, Quick Detach 3 arrow quiver, and 3 20-inch Headhunter arrows with field tips. You’ll need to get broad heads for hunting, but other than that, you’re ready to go. Most buyers have boasted about how close to being sighted in the scope was out of the box, only having to adjust for wind.

Barnett has a reputation for delivering sturdy, solid products that are affordable, accurate, and dependable in the field; the Buck Commander carries on with this tradition well, continuing the company’s efforts of competing in the crossbow market.

Whether you’re into target shooting or hunting any size game, this crossbow has everything you need, no matter who you are, at a price that’s affordable.

What do we like?

We like the speed and power of this bow; you can hunt literally anything and have the confidence of knowing you’ll be able to bring it down.

This bow is lightweight and easy to use; maneuverability won’t be a problem with the Buck Commander’s compact size and light weight.

We like that the scope has four reticles; sometimes you just got to take that long shot and this bow’s speed, accuracy, and scope will all allow for it.

We also like the anti-dry fire and auto-safety features. If you’ve ever accidentally shot a crossbow without an arrow in it, you’ll like this feature, too. If you’ve never done that, believe us when we say this is an attractive and worthwhile feature to have.

What don’t we like?

Sometimes it’s hard to find something we don’t like about a crossbow and the Buck Commander Extreme is no different.

We did find a few buyer complaints about a manufacturing mistake which Barnett will exchange with no problem. (As with anything, mistakes can happen, but the fact that Barnett not only owns up to, but makes no fuss about exchanges is great.)

Other buyer complaints included the scope not staying sighting in, the buyer saying he had to sight it in again after three or so shots, and another two buyers complained that the string broke prior to shooting the bow, when in cocked position. Just make sure to take care and wax your string as needed.

Bottom line?

Barnett has always delivered quality-made products for a valuable price and the BCX Buck Commander Extreme CRT Crossbow is no different; in fact, it carries the Barnett name proudly.

This crossbow is blistering fast and accurate. Not only can you take down big game, but you’ll also be able to take them down at a greater distance thanks to the speed, accuracy, and scope.

The rope cock and ready-to-integrate crank cock both make it easier for various types of hunters and shooters to be able to cock and shoot this bow independently of help from others, which is a great appeal.

The moderate price is perfect for even the most casual hunter up to the avid target shooter. Whatever you decide to use this crossbow for, it will deliver!
